Dear Smile E.

I’m having trouble sleeping and it’s affecting my marriage. I have PCD and between coughing, nausea, and exhaustion my sleep cycle is so messed up that my spouse is frustrated with me. What can I do?

Sincerely,

Sleeping Odd Hours

Dear Sleeping Odd Hours,

My first suggestion is to talk with your medical team to see if some adjustments or sleep aids can be added to your treatment plan. Sometimes a simple meditation adjustment can do wonders for your sleeping troubles. Other times you might be in a PCD flare and can benefit from treatment for the flare. Maybe your team could add a sleep aid to help you rest. Also a sleep study might be in order to identify any underlying things that are getting missed. Remember we need sleep to let our body heal and to help fight infections and such. Missing sleep can put you at risk of increased infections including pneumonia. Try too get as much rest when you can and don’t worry about upsetting others. It’s hard to do as I’ve been in that position as well. I’m here to talk if you need me, just pm me online.

Yours Truly,

Smile E. Turtle
