Today’s featured songwriters are Evan Barker & Evan Jones with their submission titled! “Strange Days”.
Strange Days was shot right before the 2020 lockdown started, filmed somewhere between Roswell and Palm Springs. An Alien Girl crashes onto earth and finds a post-apocalyptic world without humans. She stumbles upon a book written in her native language of Lillith and uses it to find clues as to what happened on the lonely, forgotten planet, and to see if she can find the answers she has been searching the galaxy for.
The inspiration for the band name 'Alien Girl' comes from Evan's childhood experience of feeling different from her peers. She was often sick a lot, without knowing what was wrong with because she wasn't diagnosed until 15. She also moved frequently, so she knew what it was like to be the new girl. In the 3rd and 4th grades, the entire school called her Alien Girl because they thought she was strange, like someone from another planet. This really bothered her as a kid, and so she took her frustrations out by writing songs. As an adult she is proud to be different, and to move to the beat of her own cilia. Evan has reclaimed the name Alien Girl and turned the pain of that memory into the symbol of their band's music.
Today’s music video can be viewed here or on Alien Girl’s YouTube Channel.
