PCD Awareness Month a Necessary Evil?

We are a little less than two weeks away from another PCD Awareness Month. I’m just not feeling it this year. It seems to get a little more difficult each year, and I am not sure why it gets more...

Dear Smile E.

How do you cope with the infertility of PCD. I’m so sick of my family members randomly wishing me a Happy Mother’s Day! It hurts. I’m not sure if they are intentionally inflicting pain or if they are just unaware. However I tell them every single time, I’m not a mother so stop it. They don’t seem to care, because every year it’s the same thing. I just want to run and hide from the world for the whole weekend. What advice do you have for avoiding the weekend or handling people who seem to be mean?

Signed,

Childless

Dear Childless,

((((Great Big Hugs)))) my friend! This is a subject I know well. I unfortunately have no kids either. I got asked this week by my father if I could have kids at this stage if I wanted to. Ugh, I wanted to curl up and cry. I asked why he would ask me something like that. He replied, “well your top looks like a maternity top.” Ugh! Cue the ugly crying… One of my other family members goes out of their way every single year to call me, to wish me a Happy Mothers Day. Mind you we live four states away from them.

As for strategies for this hurtful time period, I usually just log off social media and turn off all my mobile and cellular devices for the entire weekend and grab a craft projects to do while bing watching AppleTV. A good long movie marathon or series show helps pass the time while sewing or drawing. I usually have all my grocery shop done, so we can just cook and hide the weekend away. It’s just easier for me after almost thirty years of marriage with no kids to just be us for the entire weekend while waiting for Monday. I hope that you have a gentle weekend and the Monday comes fast for you. Hang in there, it’s almost over; the dreaded weekend that is.

Yours Truly,

Smile E. Turtle
